Nissan DSS-5000P NI “Hardware Error” Service Bulletin

Last updated October 10, 2017

[ht_message mstyle=”success” title=”SOFTWARE UPDATE” show_icon=”true” id=”” class=”” style=”” ]A software update (Revision D) was released on Friday, October 6, 2017 which included a software fix for this HW Error message. Please ensure you download and install the software update.[/ht_message]

Issue:

During a battery test the DSS will occasionally register a “Hardware Error” after the temperature capture screen during any test application. This issue has been researched by our engineering team and a solution has been identified. This solution will be deployed at the next software update. However, this issue does have a temporary work around, that does not affect the outcome of any test function, or warranty code generation.

[ht_message mstyle=”info” title=”INFO” show_icon=”true” id=”” class=”” style=”” ]While the error message says “Hardware Error” this is actually a software bug. Be assured that the hardware is functioning correctly, and test results are still accurate.[/ht_message]

Work Around:

When the “Hardware Error” appears:

  1. Navigate back to the main menu.
  2. Disconnect the tester pod cables from the battery and reconnect them.
  3. Wait ninety (90) seconds. Do not touch the controller during this time.
  4. After the ninety (90) seconds have elapsed, leave the tester pod connected and use the controller to complete a battery test.
  5. Once the battery test results are displayed, you have completed the workaround to fix this error.
  6. Continue using the DSS as normal. If this condition occurs again, the same steps can be repeated to clear the error.

What’s Happening:

When the tester pod cables are initially connected a series of preliminary measurements are taken from the battery and used as a base line for the battery test. Occasionally these preliminary measurements will not record properly and this will result in a hardware error. Disconnecting and reconnecting the cables allows for that initial set of measurements to be retaken and re-recorded. We advise not to touch the controller during the ninety (90) second wait period.
